Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

At our school, we are proud to offer an ambitious, inclusive and aspirational SEND provision that ensures every child is supported to thrive, achieve and feel a strong sense of belonging.

We believe that children with SEND should experience the very best of education—academically, socially and emotionally—and we are committed to creating opportunities that allow all pupils to succeed both within our classrooms and beyond.

Edison Class – Our Specialist Provision

Edison Class is our specialist base, designed to provide highly tailored support for pupils with additional needs, while maintaining strong links with mainstream learning.

Within Edison Class, children benefit from:

    • Small group teaching
    • Highly skilled staff with specialist knowledge of SEND
    • Individualised support plans tailored to specific needs
    • A nurturing and structured environment that promotes independence and confidence

While Edison Class offers targeted support, it is not separate from school life. Pupils are fully included in the wider school community and access mainstream lessons where appropriate. This flexible approach ensures children benefit both from specialist teaching and meaningful inclusion with their peers.

    Thriving in Mainstream

We are proud that children with SEND thrive in our mainstream classrooms.

    Our inclusive ethos means that:

    • All staff are trained to adapt teaching to meet a wide range of needs
    • Learning is carefully scaffolded and personalised
    • Children receive the right balance of support and challenge
    • Everyone is valued as an individual

We focus not only on academic success, but also on building confidence, communication skills and independence, enabling pupils to flourish in all aspects of school life.

    A Bespoke Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of every child, combining the National Curriculum with the Cherry Tree Curriculum to create a truly personalised learning experience.

This blended approach allows us to:

    • Maintain high academic expectations through the National Curriculum
    • Adapt learning pathways based on individual needs and starting points
    • Focus on communication, life skills and personal development
    • Ensure progression remains meaningful and achievable for every pupil

The Cherry Tree Curriculum supports a more flexible, developmental approach to learning, helping us respond to each child's unique journey.

    Learning Beyond the Classroom

We believe that education extends far beyond traditional subjects. All pupils, including those with SEND, have access to rich, practical learning experiences that bring the curriculum to life.

    These include:

    • Swimming – developing confidence, safety and physical wellbeing
    • Forest School – encouraging exploration, resilience and connection with nature
    • Trips to local significant places – helping children understand their community and the wider world
    • Practical life skills – building independence and preparing for the future

These experiences are carefully planned to ensure accessibility and inclusion, so every child can take part and succeed.

    Our Commitment

Our SEND offer is rooted in high expectations, strong relationships, and a belief that every child has the potential to achieve.

Through Edison Class, inclusive mainstream teaching, and a carefully designed curriculum, we provide:

    • A safe and supportive learning environment
    • Personalised pathways for success
    • Opportunities to develop academically, socially and emotionally
    • A foundation for lifelong learning

We are committed to working closely with families and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.
